Well, here it is, the last animal in the cardboard tube farm series. The dog. I can’t imagine a farm without a dog. This cute little Fido will wrap up the 9 animal series which included sheep, a chicken, her chicks, the cow, a cute pig, the goat, a horse, the barn cat, and of course, the dog. So let’s get on with it shall we?
Begin by cutting a cardboard tube into one 3″ piece and one 1/2″ piece. Flatten the 1/2″ piece then cut it at both folds to make two separate strips for the ears.
Paint the cardboard tube, inside and out, with brown paint. Paint the two strips dark brown, be sure to paint both sides.
Use the handle end of a paintbrush dipped in black paint to add the nose. You could also use a Sharpie marker for this step.
Use a small spouncer stencil sponge to add dark brown paint in different areas of the cardboard tube as the dogs spots.
Glue the ears inside the top of the tube. Use red paint to add a tongue and a black marker to add the mouth, eyes and eyebrows.
Cut two brown chenille stems in half. Take each piece and coil it around the handle of a paintbrush. Slide the coil off to create a leg. Repeat for each leg and glue inside the bottom of the tube. Cut a 2 inch piece of black chenille and poke it through the back of the tube as the tail.
