Adorn your door this fall with a pretty deco mesh pumpkin wreath! This eye-catcher is made with decorative mesh and a styrofoam disc.

Deco Mesh Pumpkin Wreath

I love working with deco mesh. You can see evidence of this in my studio with these deco mesh flowers and this deco mesh poinsettia for Christmas. I didn’t have a wreath for fall, so I actually took some inspiration from my deco mesh dandelions to create this deco mesh pumpkin wreath!

You can get deco mesh from just about any craft supply store, big box stores like Walmart will have a limited selection, and you can buy it online as well. Prefer to buy a deco mesh pumpkin wreath? There are several variations available from sellers on Etsy.

Deco Mesh Pumpkin Wreath

As I mentioned above, I drew some inspiration for this deco mesh pumpkin wreath from my dandelion flowers that are hanging on my studio wall. You’ll notice that when you watch the video at the end of this post. The video is of me making the yellow dandelion flower, but it’s the same exact method for the pumpkin. See it all the way down above the printable version!

Tips & Facts

  1. Full disclosure, I used Floracraft decorative mesh, but they don’t have orange on Amazon. So I’ll link to a similar product on Amazon here. You should be able to easily find this at Michaels, Hobby Lobby, and probably even at WalMart.
  2. You can buy small bags of silk leaves or you can use leaves that come with silk flowers. If you only have leaves without stems, glue them to popsicle sticks so that you will be able to insert the sticks into the Styrofoam. This is necessary in order for the leaves to be high enough to be seen from behind the deco mesh rolls of the pumpkin.
  3. For this pumpkin wreath, you will need TWO of the 10-inch x 10-yard rolls. You could probably get away with one, but it’s better to be safe than sorry! And if you don’t use the second one you can always return it.

How To Make A Deco Mesh Pumpkin Wreath

These step by step photos and instructions are here to help you visualize how to make this project. Please scroll down to simply print out the instructions!

Roll decomesh and insert in foam

I highly recommend that you watch the video as it shows the process for creating the “tube flower” that is the base of the pumpkin. This is a photo of the beginning of that process.

  1. Cut the roll of deco mesh into 10-inch lengths giving you fairly equal squares of mesh.
  2. Roll a square and insert a floral pin in the center of the tube.
  3. Fold at the center and add a dab of hot glue near the floral pin prongs.
  4. Insert the pin on an angle into the edge of the Styrofoam disc.
  5. Continue this process around the circle and work your way into the center until the disc is full.
  6. Turn the orange tube flower upside down so that the Styrofoam disc is face up.
roll green deco mesh
  1. Cut a 24-inch long piece of green deco mesh (or you can use a piece of green felt). Roll this into a loose tube so that the resulting tube is twice as large as the orange tubes.
insert floral pin
  1. Insert floral pin at the lower third of the tube.
insert into disc
  1. Apply some hot glue near the prongs and insert into the top end of the disc.
insert leaf stems
  1. Insert the leaf stems into the top end of the disc on either side of the green tube.
  2. Tie orange ribbon into a loop hanger and glue to the disc. The loop should not be visible behind the stem when viewing the wreath from the front.
cover back with felt
  1. Cut orange felt to cover the back of the disc and bottom of the stem and hot glue in place. This will also protect your door from scratches! Tie raffia around the green stem.

I can’t seem to find the styrofoam disc.. for the pumpkin wreath. What is the correct depth. 5 7/8 inches ? I’d appreciate you clarifying that for me.

Hi Sue. If you go back to the blog post, just wait for a few seconds before you scroll. It takes a sec for the video to load and usually appears after the first couple paragraphs. If you are on your phone, it could be a little farther down. Don’t use the Jump to Project button.

Amanda – thank you so much for the Pumpkin Wreath ! I am a little pumpkin mad to start with and I am having 11 crafty girls over on the 28 Oct for a creative session… I will surprise them with a big puffy pumpkin wreath on my front door. I have made copies of your instructions as I am sure they will want to make a wreath or a flower or wherever else their creativeness takes them. I am a transplanted Chicagoan living in the UK where crafters struggle finding good quality crafty products, but I am going to FL for 3 weeks in Dec. Can you recommend good crafty websites for needle felting? crochet? card making? (I normally buy $500 worth of goodies at JoAnn’s when I visit)

Hi Janice! First, thanks about the wreath! It’s funny, I have 4 friends coming over next weekend because they all want to make one. :) For crochet I like the following sites:

      (no title)

      http://www.repeatcrafterme.com/

There are lots of others, but those are my two faves.

I don’t know any card making or needle felting sites, but if you check out https://craftgossip.com/ they have several sections where they feature all sorts of projects and craft types ;) Hope that helps!

How do u kept it from it from ravening when u cut it upto make a wire wreath

Hi Pam. Decomesh can definitely fray along the cut lines. I’m not positive that I understand what you are asking though. Are you asking about cutting the mesh for making a regular wreath? Or for making this exact pumpkin wreath project? If your question is regarding this project, when the mesh is rolled up the edges aren’t really exposed so fraying does not seem to be a problem.
