Numbered Plates

You are probably getting sick of all the projects I have been creating for my kitchen lately. I promise, I’m almost done and will move on to another room… ha ha! Meanwhile, I still have a few to show you, and that’s where these numbered plates come in. I have a soffit that goes all the way around the kitchen. I’m sure the previous owner probably had all sorts of decorative plates up there, but these are more my style.

The first thing that attracted me to these plates when I saw them in the thrift store were the colored borders. Each of the colors fits really well in the theme of my kitchen, which I fear is becoming a bit overwhelmed. :-P While the rooster and the crest were nifty and all, they weren’t exactly what I had in mind. So I pulled out some white enamel paint and printed off some numbers to come up with these.

First, please excuse these awful “before” pictures. I took them with my cell phone right before I started painting. Each plate had a crest on it with a rooster in the middle.

First I painted a layer of white enamel paint over the design and up to the colored border. it took about 3 coats to cover the crest design. it probably could even have taken a fourth, but for my purposes three was fine.

My Silhouette machine wasn’t working when I did this project (it’s fixed now, yay!) so i painstakingly cut out the numbers by hand. I simply found a font in Word I was happy with and printed them off on regular copy paper. Then I sprayed the numbers with matte acrylic sealer. I did this to keep any of the ink from seeping when Mod Podge is applied.

Then I just Mod Podged the numbers on, making sure they were even with each other. Then I hung them on the soffit over the oven. Done!

Here’s the before and the after (pardon the dishes, I was cooking spaghetti sauce. Oh and see those yummy bars on the counter at left? They are amazing – the recipe for those are here –> Chocolate Topped Peanut Butter Bars):

Another before and after:

Fun! Almost done with the kitchen! :)

I like it. Your kitchen can’t be overwhelmed. These projects only fill it with more love. If you’re like me that’s your reason for doing crafts, the love you have for it. Others get to share it.

Nice job! The border would have caught my eye too. Good decision to do the numbers. Thanks for dropping by.

I'm not tired, either. I am living in a kitchen with drywall showing through and my floor peeling up. We have been "paused" since Thanksgiving regarding what appliances to buy (the reviews are all over the place and its freaking my hubby out, lol). Yesterday we went looking at cabinets. So I LOVE looking at your lovingly decorated kitchen (and more…) ~Lori
