It seems that clothespin crafts have become really popular, especially with kids! A few years back when I made my clothespin art center I was really surprised by its popularity! Was that when the craze began? Maybe. Regardless, there are lots of ways to craft with a clothespin, and these colorful birds are a fun project the kids will love.
Clothespin Crafts: Birds on a Branch
You can use the wooden clothespins that you find at WalMart is the aisle where laundry baskets are, or you can pick up a package at the craft store. My guess is that they will be less expensive at WalMart!
Note: some links below are affiliate links. That means if you happen to buy something, a small percentage of that sale goes back into this site, which enables me to continue to bring you free tutorials such as this one. So, thanks!
As always, a full printable supply list and instructions are at the end of this post.
For this project you will need the following supplies:
- 3 wooden clothespins
- Paint: blue, free, pink, orange, white, black
- Feathers: red, yellow, orange
- 12-inch wooden dowel
- Tools: paintbrush, white craft glue, toothpick
Paint the clothespins, one each: blue, pink and green.
Use the handle end of a paintbrush to dot on white for the eyes. When dry, use a toothpick to dot on the black part of the eyes.
Use a toothpick dipped in orange pant to add the beaks. Add claws at the bottom of the clothespins with orange as well.
Glue feathers to the clothespin birds, one small piece on top of the head and two for the wings on each clothespin.
Let everything dry then attach the birds to your dowel.
Optional: You can paint the dowel drown to look like a branch. You can also add string to hang it from the wall or attach with wall putty.
More clothespin crafts and bird crafts
I actually have a few more clothespin crafts waiting to be posted, so keep your eye out for those! Meanwhile, here’s a couple ideas for the kids.
