Paper Bag Fireplace

This cute paper bag fireplace makes a great gift bag, especially for some homemade cocoa and marshmallows! Or you can fill this paper bag craft with popcorn and give to a friend. Hint: put the popcorn in a plastic bag first as the butter will soak through the paper bag!

This is makes a great classroom activity for kids as well. I know it can sometimes be difficult to find winter crafts in the midst of all the holiday madness.

What kind of fun things can you put inside?

• cocoa and marshmallows
• mittens and a scarf
• homemade fire starters
• colored pencils and a small notebook for coloring

You don’t need too many supplies either. A paper lunch bag, a red crayon, black pen, a ruler, some construction paper and a glue stick! Get the printable instructions below.

I created this project for Kaboose several years ago (had to be prior to 2008) and it’s disappeared from the site. This is such a cute kid’s craft for winter or Christmas, seemed such a shame to let it disappear into the internet black hole!

Paper Bag Fireplace

Supplies

• Brown paper lunch bag
• Red crayon
• Black pen or marker
• Ruler
• Construction paper: black red, orange, yellow
• Glue stick

Instructions

• Lay the paper bag flat and use a marker and a ruler to draw lines across the bag to create the bricks. Draw the vertical lines to create each brick. Color the bricks with a red crayon.
• Cut the hearth from black construction paper and glue to the bag.
• Cut flame shapes from red construction paper. Use that as a guide to cut flames from yellow and orange as well, then trim down the orange so they are smaller than the red. Trim down the yellow so they are smaller than the orange. Glue the flames (red, orange, yellow) to the hearth.
• Fill bag with crumpled paper to give it some body and close the top.
