These finger puppets are quick to put together and provide hours of dragon soaring fun!
We love making puppets for kids and these adorable dragon finger puppets are no exception. Get all the supplies ready and make them right after seeing the new movie or before you go to generate excitement!
Dragon Finger Puppets: Toothless and Light Fury
My boys are huge fans of How to Train Your Dragon! They cannot wait for the final installment of the How to Train Your Dragon series. They are anticipating what adventures Hiccup and Toothless have in store.
The boys are especially interested in finding out more about the mystical Light Fury! Where did she come from? Will she and Toothless get along? What adventures do they have in store?
In anticipation of the movie the boys and I were inspired to create a fun How to Train Your Dragon craft! We decided to make Toothless and Light Fury dragon finger puppets which are easy to make and so much fun to play with.
You can use this printable template to easily cut the pieces out of either card stock or felt. Once you glue on a few details, within minutes you will be soaring your Light Fury and Toothless puppets around for some high-flying dragon fun!
Supplies you need for Toothless and Light Fury Dragon Finger Puppets:
- Felt (black and white)
- Card stock (black and white)
- fun foam (green, red and blue)
- Black marker
- Hot glue gun (with adult supervision) or craft glue
- Fabric
- Paper scissors
- clothespins or push pins (to hold fabric to template when cutting)
- Printable template
How to make your dragon finger puppets:
Cut out template on card stock, pin it to the felt and cut out.
Once the body has been cut form a loop with the two strips between the arms and legs of the body piece. Secure with hot glue.
Next cut out the eyes using fun foam; green eyes for Toothless and blue eyes for light fury.
Draw in pupils for eyes with a black marker.
Then attach the eyes with glue.
Next attach ends of tails. (heart for Light Fury and triangle for Toothless, included in the template)
The final step is to fold the wings like an accordion and attach them with hot glue in the center of the dragon’s back.
Take your dragons for a test flight!
We can’t wait to find out how the bond between Toothless and Hiccup continues to grow and what other surprises are waiting in The Hidden World other than the beautiful Light Fury.
Therefore, we were first in line at the theater. And… we were sure to bring our puppets along for the fun!

This seems like a super fun and engaging craft! I was wondering if you had other templates for other dragons so that there was more variety for kids?
