Denim Mosaic Chalkboard

Denim Mosaic Chalkboard

Many kids have already gone back to school, mine go back after Labor Day. There’s been a flurry of back to school crafts flying around, so you know I have to throw a few in myself! This is one of those chalkboards that are already made, so you don’t have to make it yourself with chalkboard paint.

What you will need are some old blue jeans you can cut up. It’s even more colorful and fun if you have some colorfully dyed jeans that you have set aside for crafts. I’ve taken several pairs of ripped kid jeans from over the years and dyed each of them a different color to use for occasions like this.

If you don’t have colored jeans, you can always use regular acrylic paint to change the color. No need for fabric paint since you won’t be washing this.

All you have to do is cut the denim into squares wide enough to cover and overlap the border of the chalkboard. Hot glue those squares all the way around the border, overlapping a little as you go and alternating different shades and types of denim for some contrast. Cut colored denim into smaller squares and glue then randomly around the frame.

Notes from Amanda

The project pictures uses a few splashes of color by using recycled dyed jeans. You can dye some if you like or use acrylic paint to color some pieces. No fabric medium needed as you won't be running these jeans through the washer!
