If you’re having a Halloween party it wouldn’t be complete without Jack O’ Lanterns! If you just want to give a goodie bag to friends, your teacher or family, it’s fun to dress up plain paper bags and give them personality!
Jack O’ Lantern Treat Bags
These Jack O’ Lantern bags are easy to make, and if they are available near you, you can skip the painting step and buy orange bags from the party supply section. It’s a bit more expensive, but a lot less messy.
With fall here, we’re getting a lot of rain. Kids get couped up when it rains, so a craft project is just the thing!
You can get a big package of brown paper lunch sacks for a few dollars, but if you don’t have time to paint or want to make this a make & take for a party, head over to the party section or the gift wrap section of the store. They often have bags in a variety of colors that you can purchase ala carte.
Making Jack O’ Lantern Treat Bags
You can probably find almost everything you need at the dollar store too. I have a huge supply of scrapbook paper laying around, but if you don’t, construction paper works great for the faces as well!

For this project you will need the following supplies:
- Paper lunch bags or orange party bags
- Orange craft paint
- Scrapbook paper
- Green tissue paper
- Twine or raffia
- Tools: hole puncher, scissors, glue stick
Note: If you prefer not to freehand the facial features, you can find free stencils online, such as these.
Paint the bags with orange paint and allow them to dry completely.
Cut facial features from scrapbook paper.
Attach facial features using a glue stick and allow to dry.
Fill with party treats, add some green tissue paper and punch a hole at the top of the bag. Carefully tie a piece of twine through the hole as a finishing touch!
