How to Make Lavender Soap
These step by step photos and instructions are here to help you visualize how to make this project. Please scroll down to simply print out the instructions!
- Place 1 pound of glycerin goat’s milk soap inside a microwavable bowl.
- Melt the soap in the microwave at 10 second intervals until soap is fully melted and creamy in appearance. Stir between intervals. It takes about 6-8 intervals in total to fully melt. Don’t overcook as the soap may burn.
- Work quickly as the goat’s milk begins to harden as it cools.
- Add essential oil and stir completely.
- Pour the mixture into the soap molds.
- Before the surface of the soap sets, insert a sprig of lavender leaves onto the top of the soap. If the surface has already hardened, gently poke the surface with the end of the stem to release some melted soap to help hold the leaves in place.
- Let the soap fully set in the mold for at least 1 hour before removing.
- Once soap is removed from mold, trim any rough edges with a sharp knife.
- wrap it in decorative paper or tissue and tie with a simple piece of twine.
Expert Crafting Tips
- As tempting as it may be, do not add lavender flower buds to the soap. It can react with the lye in the soap and turn brown.
- Try different soap molds until you find one that you like. Silicone mold work great!
- For a decorative touch, wrap with crumpled brown parchment paper and tie with twine. Tuck a spring of lavender in the top of the wrapper.
Learning how to make lavender soap in your own home is easy to do. Homemade soap is fun to make and is an awesome project to do with older kids. This is an ideal craft night project as well.
