Does your sweetie have a rampant collection of electronics cords and wires hanging around? Help him or her get organized with these useful and simple DIY leather cord organizers for electronics. With a little heart embellishment, they’ll think of you each time they use one!

How to make leather cord organizers

DIY Leather Cord Organizers

I’m sure mine is not the only one, but my husband loves his electronics. Between the phone, tablets, earbuds and other gadgets he buys, he usually has a whole tangled mess of cords and wires.

I saw these DIY felt cable organizers recently and thought they would make a great little gift for him.  Best of all, I had leather left over from our upcycled leather coat purse project, so this ended up being a really inexpensive yet useful gift idea.

We added a little heart embellishment to make them extra special, especially with Valentine’s Day coming up, but you could omit those if you’d like.

Organized DIY leather cord organizers.

Materials Needed  for this DIY Cord Organizer :

  • Leather scraps
  • Fabric Scissors
  • Paper, ruler, pen/pencil
  • Metal cap snap kit, 15mm
  • Awl
  • Hammer

How to make DIY Cord Organizers, supplies needed

How to make DIY Cord Organizers:

Create a paper pattern to use a template for cutting out your leather pieces. The larger piece to measure 4″ long x 2″ wide with rounded edges on one side. The heart piece to measure 1″ high x 1″ wide.

Using a pair of fabric scissors, cut out the leather pieces using the template provided.

With the help of an awl and pen, mark the areas where the snap will be attached.

Poke a hole through each of the marked spots using an awl and push the awl all the way through to enlarge the hole. To make the holes even larger so the snap parts fit through, use the tip of the scissors and trim away just a bit of fabric.

Be sure to work on a hard, flat surface.

First, place the cap shaft through the hole of the heart shaped cut out (suede side up).

Then place the cap shaft through the larger leather piece.

Place ringed part over the shaft and using the snap tools provided, gently hammer into place.

Repeat with the bottom side of the snap parts in the remaining hole on the opposite end.

Wrap around an unruly cord and snap in place.

And that’s it! You’ve got a practical yet inexpensive gift idea that he’s sure to love. Actually, I went ahead and made a couple of these leather cord organizers for the unruly cables in my purse!

If you are looking for more gift ideas for your spouse,  consider some of these “non-stuff” gift ideas for Valentine’s, Christmas or their birthday. Or make them some thoughtful heart photo magnets or a We Love You photo frame.

So, does your partner like to collect electronics cords?
