As CD’s and DVD’s become obsolete, recycled CD crafts will become more popular. I’ve been making things from old CD’s for years now, and these colorful birds are just one example. We still own a DVD player, but it’s stuffed in a closet somewhere and hasn’t been used in a long time. In this age of Netflix and streaming videos, the DVD is on its way out. Same goes for CDs as people download games and software programs directly to their devices. There’s just no future for those round discs, just like cassette tapes, VHS tapes and yes, even 8-tracks that came before them.

Recycled CD Crafts: Colorful Birds

So if you have some CD’s or DVD’s lying around, let’s get busy and make these pretty birds to decorate your child’s room!

Note: some links below are affiliate links. That means if you happen to buy something, a small percentage of that sale goes back into this site, which enables me to continue to bring you free tutorials such as this one. So, thanks!

As always, a full printable supply list and instructions are at the end of this post.
For this project you will need the following supplies:

  • Recycled CD or DVD
  • Scrapbook paper
  • Orange card stock or construction paper
  • Large googly eye (I used the ones with eyelashes)
  • Feathers
  • Tools: glue stick, scissors, pen or pencil, white craft glue

Cut the circle out of the scrapbook paper and cover the back with glue stick.

Press the sticky side of the circle to the CD.

Cut a small triangle from orange paper and glue to the front of the CD, sticking out over the edge.

Glue a feather to the top of the CD. Glue a feather to the right side (back) of the CD for the tail and another to the front (center) of the CD for the wing.

Add googly eye with white craft glue.

I think the best way would be to run a string hanger through the center hole of the CD BEFORE you decoupage the paper on :)
