Any fan of the Star Wars films knows what a Jawa is. They are small humanoids that are usually only about 3 feet tall. They inhabit the desert planet of Tatooine and are known as scavengers of machinery, so be sure to keep your droids close! These Star Wars Jawa rocks are just one of the easy crafts for kids that you can make this summer.

Star Wars Jawa Painted Rocks

Star Wars Jawa Rocks

I’m no stranger to Star Wars crafts. In fact, these Jawa rocks come from my book, Star Wars Mania, which is filled with fun Star Wars crafts for kids. Last year I showed you how to make this Chewbacca craft and just a few days ago I shared my cardboard tube Ewoks. If you are headed to a Star Wars birthday party, be sure to grab a copy of my book to give as a present!

Star Wars Jawa Rocks in sand

To make these jawa painted rocks you will need:

  • Smooth rocks, washed and dried
  • Acrylic craft paint: black, brown, dark yellow (Patio Paint if keeping them outside)
  • Fine point black permanent marker
  • Round sponge applicator
  • Paintbrush
  • Sandpaper (if needed)

Here’s how you make these cute jawas:

NOTE: You can find smooth rocks out in your yard or at the park. You can also purchase rocks from the craft store. However, these rocks will most likely have been polished. Use a piece of sandpaper to knock off the shine so that the paint can stick more easily.

TIP: If you would like to keep your Jawas outside in the garden use an outdoor craft paint such as Patio Paint.

painting the rocks

  1. Paint the rocks with two coats of brown paint, allowing them to dry between coats.

Use a round sponge applicator to apply black paint to one end of the rock.

Using the handle end of your paintbrush dipped in dark yellow paint, add two eyes to the black paint.

Use marker to draw squares for the ammo pouches on the Jawa’s bandolier.

If you do decide to keep these outside, similar to my ladybug painted rocks, I suggest adding a coat or two of clear coat by Patio Paint which is formulated specifically for the outdoors.

Now that your jawa rocks are done you can give them as a gift to your favorite Star Wars fan or play with them out in the yard. Be sure to find a sandy area to play as jawas are used to living in the desert. These also make great paperweights or you can put them out in your garden.
