Ladybug Tic Tac Toe Game

Create your own ladybug tic tac toe game with painted ladybugs and bee rocks. We love this playful and whimsical game board with the painted leaves, it looks like the ladybugs and bumblebees are hopping from one leaf to another!

Why We Love This Craft

We followed this previous post for making adorable ladybug painted rocks and made similar bee rocks to match. They turned out so great, I think I’ll make more just to put throughout my garden. 

We love how this simple, yet adorable tic tac toe game can keep kids or guests smiling whether it’s played indoors or outdoors. Put it on a side table for some added charm to your decor!

Tips To Get You Started

• Protect your work surface with a sheet of parchment paper.
• Leave paint to dry fully before applying additional coats of paint of changing color.

Making Ladybug Tic Tac Toe

These step by step photos and instructions are here to help you visualize how to make this craft. Please scroll down to simply print out the instructions!

Paint the surface of the wood board in White Wash. Apply a second coat of paint if needed once the first coat dries.

Using a pencil, lightly draw a few vines over the board with curvy lines. Draw small leaves along each of the vine. Using a fine tip paintbrush, paint the leaves in Foliage Green and paint over top of the vine lines in Avocado.

Draw intersecting lines for the tic-tac-toe game using a ruler.

Paint dashes over the pencil lines in black and erase the pencil lines or rub off with a damp cloth or touch up with white paint.

Once finished, apply a coat of sealer over the painted board and let dry fully before using.

Painting the LadyBug Rocks

Divide the rocks in half: 5 for ladybugs and 5 for bees.

Paint the surface of the rocks in True Red.

Paint the one end of the rock in black and using the back end of the paintbrush, dip it in black and apply small dots all over the rocks.

Using the back end of the paintbrush, dip it in White Wash and apply two small dots for eyes on the painted black portion. Add two smaller dots inside the eyes in black.

Painting the Bee Rocks

Paint the surface of the rocks in Bright Yellow (we needed a few coats to get good coverage). Next, paint two parallel lines in black across the rock as shown. Paint the one end of the rock in black.

Using the back end of the paintbrush, dip it in White Wash and apply two small dots for eyes on the painted black portion. Add two smaller dots inside the eyes in black.

And that is it! Your tic-tac-toe game is complete and ready for some fun play-time!

Ladybug Tic Tac Toe

With some paint and this simple tutorial, turn a few medium sized rocks and a wooden tray into an adorable DIY ladybug tic-tac-toe game!

Supplies

• 1 Wood Tray 9” square
• 10 medium sized rocks
• Americana Acrylics Paint White Wash, Lamp Black, Bright Yellow, True Red, Foliage Green, Avocado
• Paintbrushes in assorted sizes
• Sealer such as Mod Podge with a matte finish
• Pencil

Instructions

• Paint the surface of the wood board in White Wash paint.
• Using a pencil, lightly draw a few vines over the board with curvy lines. Draw small leaves along each of the vines as shown.
• Using a fine tip paint brush, paint the leaves in Foliage Green. Paint over top of the vine pencil lines in Avocado.
• Draw intersecting lines for the tic-tac-toe game and paint dashes over these lines in black.
