While I don’t get to the thrift store as often as I would like, I do like to slowly browse the shelves looking for small pieces of hidden treasure. There are so many items that are bursting with potential, and more often than not I will buy them and they’ll actually sit in my “project cabinet” for a long time before ever making it to the craft table. This particular item, a fish shaped wooden snack tray, caught my eye several years ago at Salvation Army.
Striped Coastal Fish Decor
My original idea was to make a sign out of it for my husband or my son as both of them love to fish. But then I saw the awesome fish in this Etsy shop and was inspired to create my own version from this thrift store find. Be sure to take a look in her store, I’m willing to bet you’ll want to buy something before it’s over with!

Hi Amanda,
I like you ideas for the beach theme, but I am helping my daughter decoraste her new home and right now she has the fish shower curtain and other fish decor started. What I am looking for are two walls to fill on the same idea and would like maybe a saying in a beach color The Beach is Where To Be or something like that with plaques or fishes, etc. Do you see where I am going with this. I have looked and looked for ideas but making it for her would be better. Oh on the side wall next to the sink maybe a small porthole with a beach scene or a metal abstract colored fishes. Please let me know what you think. TY

Hi Diane. I’m not quite able to picture what you want to make, but have you looked through my beach section yet? You might find something in there that inspires you, here’s the link https://craftsbyamanda.com/category/craft-tutorials/adult-crafts/beach-crafts/

Hi Amanda, I love your work and I love this fish tray. The combination of colours and the worn look give it quite a transformation. I have a garage full of projects and this has inspired me to get cracking.
Thanks Maureen
