This cute button lamp shade is an easy craft project for all ages. You don’t need any specific skills to create this fun home decor piece that is simply bursting at the seams with pretty colored buttons. No sewing involved, just some buttons and your hot glue gun.
Make it your own and use antique inspired buttons, like the ones I used on these Antique Button Earrings or use buttons in your favorite colors.
Button Lamp Shade
The great part about this button lampshade is that you can suit it to your personality. Use black and white buttons for a modern twist, antique-inspired buttons for a pretty vintage look, colorful buttons for a bright and cheery lampshade or even make a design from your buttons!
When you turn your light on you will see a pretty design or perhaps a tree, butterfly, baseball, football, or anything else your heart desires.
If you’re like me, you have loads of multi-colored buttons sitting around just begging to be made into something beautiful. In fact, one of the most popular projects I ever made is this Vibrant Button Tree on Canvas. Talk about feeding your creative side with that project!
I can just picture it in my mind, that button tree on this lamp shade. How cool would that be? I think I foresee another fun button lampshade coming up!
What you need to make a button lamp shade:
First, apply hot glue directly to the shade or onto the button. Press button in place on the shade.
Remove glue strings after every few buttons.
Repeat steps 1-3 until the lamp shade is covered in buttons.
I originally made this button lamp shade for my book, Button Mania. This project is ideal for an adult craft or tween craft. It looks adorable in a kid’s bedroom, as a pretty piece next to your couch, or adds a colorful touch to your craft or sewing room!

Alexandra says
Have the buttons held up well? I mean, no falling off?
Amanda Formaro says
I did have one or two pop off, but that’s it! Simply glued them back on and it’s still holding up!
