It doesn’t get much better than using supplies you already have on hand to make some pretty home decor. These rustic mason jar wall sconces came together when I found some scrap wood in the garage. Hang these sconces in your dining room or add them to a bedroom for a romantic touch.

DIY Mason Jar Wall Sconces
Hello creative friends. This is Jane from Sustain My Craft Habit where my sister Sonja and I share simple nature inspired DIY craft and home decor ideas. Just when I think I won’t be able to come up with another way to use those mason jars, those versatile glass containers inspire me.
For a recent party, I bought a bunch of twinkle lights off of Amazon. And when I walked into my garage finding some scrap wood, these sconces for my dining room came to mind.
Materials Needed for this Upcycled Jar Idea
- Two 4”x12“ wood sections
- Two Mason jars
- DecoArt Chalky Finish paint in Relic
- Paintbrushes
- Sandpaper
- Ruler, pencil
- Black decorative hooks
- Sawtooth hanging hardware
- Frosted glass spray paint
- Masking tape
- Jute twine: 2×20” and 2X48” long
- Faux florals
- Twinkle lights
How to Make Rustic Mason Jar Wall Sconces
If needed, sand down any rough edges and surfaces of your wood pieces.
Paint the entire front surface and sides of the wood with the Relic paint. Let dry.
With sandpaper, distress the edges and surfaces of the painted wood pieces.
Add hanging hardware to the back of each wood piece, about 2” down from the top of the wood piece.
Attach the decorative hook to the middle front of the wood piece. Set aside.
And some tape around the neck of the mason jar. Lightly spray the outside of the mason jar with frosted glass spray paint. Let dry.
Place the shorter piece of twine over the opening of the jar.
Wrap the longer piece of twine around the neck of the jar several times, covering the tails of the shorter pieces.
Tie the ends of the shorter piece together to create a hanging rope.
Place twinkle lights and faux flowers into the mason jars and hang onto the decorative hook. Hang the sconce on the wall.
These mason jar wall sconces turned out even cozier than I thought they would be. They just add that little bit of rustic touch to my dining room. And a little bit of light to the wall.
I love that I can change out the flowers according to the seasons and could even use different colored twinkle lights for a different effect.

What a great project! I just made them and I love them. Used 3 strands of lights in each and used sunflowers. Just so easy and gorgeous!
