You can make these scrap wood frames in minutes to give as homemade gifts or to simply display around your home.

Scrap Wood Frames with embellishments and twine.

Scrap Wood Frames

Add any embellishments that you wish to your individual scrap wood frames. I have four different options below to jump-start some ideas. I even included a Christmas version for those that may want to add some pictures to your holiday decor.

Supplies needed to make these scrap wood frames

Supplies for scrap wood frames.
  • Scrap wood pieces
  • Wood stain – I used grey but you can use any color you would like.
  • Paintbrush
  • Rag
  • Twine
  • Embellishments
  • Hot glue gun

How To Make Scrap Wood Frames

  1. You can cut your boards to size or use them at whatever length they are at. Sand if needed.
  2. Stain the boards any color that you wish. I used a light grey stain for a rustic look.  Paint on the stain with a paintbrush, allow to sit a few minutes, then wipe away excess with a rag.
  3. Wrap one end with some twine and tie in the back.
  4. Use hot glue to secure a variety of embellishments as you wish. Think flowers or even burlap accents!

Then your scrap wood frames are ready for display or to wrap and give as gifts.

Slide your picture under some of the strands of twine on one end. So simple and so cute! They stand up on their own without anything additional in the back.

Embellishment Ideas

  • Burlap flowers are perfect for a rustic touch.
  • Your favorite faux flowers can add a pop of color to match your decor.
  • Hot glue mini Christmas decorations for the holidays such as bottlebrush trees or wreaths.
  • Tie a big bow out of solid colored or printed ribbon.
  • If you have a Cricut you can easily print off a quote to line the border of your frames.

I also added one of these to my Christmas decor.

I added a small bottle brush tree and wreath to this one with hot glue. It is adorable and perfect for a cute baby picture in my holiday decor. You can find those cute wood slice trees in the background on the blog as well!

So, will you be making some scrap wood frames this year?  Be sure to use up that scrap wood to make gifts and home decor as well, like our reversible scrap wood pumpkins and snowmen, or this cute rustic wood frame!
