We started painting rocks in the summer (see our painted shark rocks) and haven’t been able to stop! There’s something so fun about creating scenes on these little canvases.
Supplies Needed for these Snowflake Painted Rocks:
- Round rocks with a flattish surface, approx. 2” diameter
- Americana Multi-Surface Satin Acrylic Paint in Cotton Ball, Turf Green, Deep Turquoise
- Americana Decor Metallics in Silver
- Small acrylic paint brushes in assorted sizes (with fine tips for detailed work)
- Snowflake Pattern Template
If you prefer, you can use paint pens instead of a paintbrush. You can find paint pens here.
How to Paint Snowflakes on Rocks:
Before you get started, here are some helpful tips:
- Wash the rocks and let them dry completely before painting.
- Protect your work surface with a sheet of newspaper.
- Use a fine tip paint brush for best results.
- Long, steady and continual brush strokes work best when painting the snowflakes.
Choose a paint color for each snowflake and dip the fine tip paint brush into the paint.
Using the snowflake pattern template as a guide, begin to paint the snowflake directly onto the rock trying to copy the snowflake as best as possible. Use different colors of paints for each stone and mix in some metallic ones as well.
I scattered these snowflake painted rocks across my cozy coastal Christmas mantel this year.
The beach stones fit right in. But they also would look really cute as a napkin weights on the table.
