Beach Sign Ornaments

Just because it’s gotten cold outside doesn’t mean we have to forget all about those warm days on the beach. Over the summer we love to collect beautiful pieces of driftwood near the shores of our family cottage.

We use this driftwood for all sorts of crafting including these bedroom door driftwood signs, reindeer ornaments, driftwood mirrors , driftwood crab wall art and more.

Beach House driftwood beach sign ornaments

The best part of these coastal ornaments is that each is truly one of a kind. They make thoughtful gift ideas for any beach loving friend or family member. Or hang them up at the cottage even after Christmas is long gone.

How to make a Beach Sign Ornaments

Make sure that your driftwood pieces are clean and scrubbed free of sand or any dirt.

Starting with one of the Vintage Effect Wash colors (we have Turquoise here) paint a generous coat on to each of the driftwood pieces. You can choose whether to do one or both sides.

painting driftwood pieces with turquoise paint

While the paint is still wet use a paper towel to scrub off the excess. You want the paint to stay thick in any grooves and holes of the wood to achieve a nice pickled look.

Set aside to dry. In the meantime, repeat with the other two paint colors.

When the paint has completely dried, with coarse sandpaper, sand along the edges and any bumps and ridges on the driftwood to achieve a weathered effect.

Next, letter the phrases onto the driftwood pieces using the white paint. Feel free to refer to our template for ideas. Let dry completely.

Drill two holes near the top of each ornament.

Finally, use either black wire or twine to create a hanger on the ornaments.
